Archbishop to Also Speak at Graduation
Marymount California University is pleased to announce the appointment of the Most Reverend José Horacio Gómez to its board of trustees. His term begins in March 2017.
“The university’s leaders, faculty, and staff are honored to welcome the archbishop to Marymount California University’s board of trustees,” said chairman of the board Burt Arnold. “The archbishop’s commitment to furthering Catholic higher education aligns with Marymount California University’s mission and identity as an outstanding Catholic higher education institution,” said Arnold.
Marymount California University’s seventh president, Lucas Lamadrid, Ph.D., embraces the archbishop’s priorities, including his inspiration of education in the faith. “From our first meeting, it was clear that the archbishop and I shared the same goals for Catholic higher education. Marymount California University is anchored in the Catholic tradition. From that tradition, Marymount California University welcomes all and abides by the principle that each student is sacred,” said Dr. Lamadrid.
In addition, President Lamadrid announced that the Most Reverend José Horacio Gómez was selected as the university’s 2017 commencement speaker. The archbishop will receive the university’s Honorary Doctorate of Humanities at the May 6 graduation event.
