Mission Week 2017 Celebrates MCU’s Heritage

Beginning March 20, the university launched its annual Mission Week with the presentation by Professor Beth Kreitzer, Ph.D., titled “Fake News Is Nothing New: Popular Misconceptions about Historical Events and People (Renaissance Edition).” On Tuesday, the university celebrated its Heritage Mass with sisters of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary.

President’s First Year Blooms a New Era

President Lucas Lamadrid, PhD, has brought growth and fresh ideas to Marymount California University in his first year of leadership at the nonprofit Catholic university located in Rancho Palos Verdes. Lauded by the university’s board of trustees, the efforts of Marymount’s seventh president have borne fruit.

Event brings Awareness to Faculty and Staff Research

The annual Celebration of Scholarship, an event led by the university’s librarians, was held the evening on March 30. Fourteen presenters representing faculty and staff shared their research and conclusions with an assembled group of faculty, staff and students in the university’s library.

Meet Student Lauren Marsh

Lauren Marsh has faced life-changing tragedy, but next month she will walk across the stage to receive her college diploma. Injured in a motocross accident in 2012, Lauren found herself with some paralysis, and limited movement and numbness in other places. Due to her physical limitations, she took time away from school to recover, but found herself losing the motivation to complete her degree.

Marymount in the Community

Professor Emeritus Dr. C.W. (Chuck) Spurgeon presented to more than 70 members and friends of Peninsula Seniors at Hesse Park on March 29. His topic, The Ancient of Days, was accompanied by a take-home booklet he distributed to the attendees.

Real-world learning about historical San Pedro

With permission from Los Angeles city councilmember Joe Buscaino, one of councilmember’s field deputies Ryan Ferguson gave a behind-the-scenes tour of “7th Heaven,” the LAPD jail built in early 1900s; the Perry Mason courtroom from the original TV series located on the sixth floor; and the Fire Museum.

Hard at work to create beautiful campuses

In January, Marymount California University began a new facility services partnership with SSC, a firm with 47 years of experience serving education sites. With service agreements at institutions across the country, SSC maintains properties for 75 school districts and 55 college and university campuses.
