Rooted in Catholic tradition, the heritage of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary (RSHM), and enhanced by the religious diversity represented on campus, all are welcome to participate in Campus Ministry programs. As a Catholic university, Marymount values individual and communal religious experiences as integral to our mission and educational philosophy.
At Campus Ministry, we believe that spiritual experience is a vital dimension of our students’ development and the life of our campus community. We provide opportunities and resources for faith formation, prayer and worship, community building and pastoral support.
Throughout the school year, the community celebration of the Eucharist occurs every Tuesday at 1 PM in our Chapel is the heart of campus spiritual life, with additional masses offered on Wednesdays and Thursdays, officiated by our Campus Chaplains. We also offer faith sharing and Scripture study, confession services, Confirmation classes, volunteer opportunities, as well as various religious celebrations and interfaith prayer services.
The campus hosts collegiate seminarians from Our Lady Queen of Angels Seminary, who are both students and help support the spiritual development of their fellow students.
There are various ways for students to be involved with Campus Ministries and campus faith programs, including serving as liturgical ministers for mass and participating in COR (Christian Outreach and Renewal), the student organization advised by Campus Ministry.
Spiritual formation and education
We offer opportunities throughout the year to bring students together to share and develop their faith. Scripture study and faith-sharing groups, days of reflection, retreats and individual spiritual direction are just a few examples of how we come together to continue learning and growing. Look for these and other Campus Ministry programs advertised on campus.
A retreat is a time set aside in which one withdraws from ordinary activities to commune with God in prayer, reflection and communal sharing. Campus Ministry offers a variety of retreat programs on campus and off campus to help students to explore and deepen their faith.
Our annual Fall Retreat takes students off campus to spend time away in nature and in community. The retreat is focused on self-reflection, community building and connecting with God. Led by a student team, retreat talks are shared by leaders with plenty of time for prayer, sharing and fun! All students are welcome.
Additional retreat experiences, such as the Senior Retreat and the Busy Mariner Retreat, provide time and space to reflect on one’s relationship with God, vocation and callings, and our journey of faith.
This is one-on-one spiritual sharing time between a student and a member of the Campus Ministry staff. Sometimes, a person may wish to share experiences and questions regarding his or her relationship to God, self and others. We are available to share perspectives on the spiritual journey and to help you discern the movement of the Spirit in your own life. Feel free to stop by our offices any time.
Every spring semester, Campus Ministry offers an Adult Confirmation Class for those who wish to complete their sacraments of initiation in the Catholic Church. Participants commit to shared prayer, study and service as they prepare to receive the Sacrament at the end of the semester. Campus Ministry also works closely with our local parish, Holy Trinity in San Pedro, for those who wish to enter the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, (RCIA) to learn more about the Catholic faith.
Educational events specifically for staff and faculty are offered through the Mission and Catholic Identity Council. The Annual “Mission Week” Lecture brings a noted speaker to campus in honor of the RSHM founding of the school. The “New Faculty Conversations” offer discussions on topics related to the Catholic Intellectual Tradition.
