Student Health Insurance Plan

building blocks of health care

MCU requires all full-time students to have health insurance. Students may elect coverage through their own individual/family plan or the university’s student health insurance plan (SHIP). Enrollment in the student health insurance plan is automatic. However, beginning June 1, all domestic students (new and returning) may apply to waive, or refuse, the student health insurance plan. To receive a waiver, you must submit proof of health insurance to the waiver portal annually.

You can access the student health insurance plan website for information on your enrollment, eligibility and using your plan. You’ll find specific information on providers, pharmacy benefits and how to get your medical bills paid.

Waiver process

Domestic students may apply to waive the university’s student health insurance plan (SHIP) by providing proof of current health insurance coverage. International students are not eligible to waive MCU’s student health insurance plan and will be billed for annual coverage.

To opt out of SHIP, please submit a waiver here. You will need a copy of your insurance card (both sides). Domestic students may begin waiving insurance on June 1. Upon submission, please check your email for notification that your waiver is approved. If the waiver is approved, the fee will be credited to your account. Denied waivers can be appealed and processed manually, if requested prior to the add/drop deadline. Waivers must be submitted by add/drop day by 5 pm (PST).
