Grad of the Week: Lauren Avedon

MCU Grad of the week Laura Avedon

MCU is pleased to shine a light on a few of our students who are members of the Class of 2021 and are candidates for graduation for Fall 2020.

What is your degree?
Bachelor of Science in Digital Communication Media

What are your plans and hopes for after graduation?
I hope to have a career in Social Media Marketing. I am aiming for platforms that are in the entertainment industry, such as streaming services or I would love to work for fashion brands.

What have you been involved in while at MCU?
I have gone to multiple school events such as the Ito-Matsuura film festivals, the Spring Fair, the Poetry Slam, the Annual Alumni Panel event, and I was involved in filming a promotional video for the Beacon House in San Pedro.

What is your favorite memory of MCU?
When I was in Yumi Kinoshita’s class, Video Production Methods II and we filmed interviews with a few Beacon House residents and their parents for their promotional video. It was a great and unforgettable experience to collaborate and work as a class together to film something professionally, and also have behind the scenes footage so I have those memories forever of being with my friends and creating something special for a great cause.

What was your favorite class at MCU?
I truly liked all my classes, but I would have to say my favorite class at MCU was Social Media in Marketing. Since Social Media Marketing is my career goal, this class really helped me understand more about the business side of social media and how to create successful marketing strategies.

Who inspired you at MCU and why?
I can’t pick just one person that has inspired me, so the people who inspired me at MCU were my professors, Blue Wade and Yumi Kinoshita, and my academic advisor, Tiffany Gutierrez. Having Blue and Yumi as two of my professors during all 4 semesters I have been here has been great. They gave me a lot of creative freedom during our projects and were always there for me with help and guidance if I needed it, which inspired me to work harder and present my best work. Tiffany showed me she really cares about my academic career and helped me along the way with making sure I had all the classes I need in order to graduate this fall. I am thankful to all of you and truly appreciate the time I have spent here at MCU!
