Grad of the Week: Lyla Floyd
MCU is pleased to shine a light on a few of our students who are members of the Class of 2021 and are candidates for graduation for Spring 2021.
What is your major?
Bachelor of Arts in Psychology
What are your hopes and plans after graduation?
To go to graduate school for school psychology.
What have you been involved in while at MCU?
I am the president of the Peer Health Educators, the vice president of Psi Chi, and I have worked/interned at the Student Wellness Center since Feb 2019.
What is your favorite memory of MCU?
My first day of work at the Student Wellness Center was actually my birthday. Erin Nakamura went out and purchased cupcakes and a balloon, and everyone sang happy birthday to me.
What advice do you have for other students?
Take every opportunity that MCU gives you. This university has staff and faculty that want nothing but for you to succeed. To not take advantage of that would be crazy!
What was your favorite experience at MCU?
Working in the Student Wellness Center. I have learned so much about clinical psychology in this job, and I am very grateful for this experience.
What was your favorite class at MCU and why?
Foundations in Counseling. This class discussed exactly what I will be dealing with in my future career. Dr. Draper is full of experience and knowledge, and it was really reassuring to hear about his experience.
Who inspired you at MCU and why?
The psychology professors are all inspirations. They are all so kind and want nothing but the best for us. Dr. Draper, Dr. Lauer, Dr. Kaeochinda, Professor Royal, and Professor Lopez all helped me along my journey here. I am most inspired by the women in the Student Wellness Center. Osmara, Dianne, and Erin all helped shape me into a young professional in the world of psychology. They helped me through growing pains and stressful days. I am forever grateful for them giving me this experience in clinical psychology that I would not have gotten without them.
