Grad of the week Serena Chavez

MCU is pleased to shine a light on a few of our students from the Class of 2022 who are candidates for graduation this December.

What is your major?
Bachelor of Arts in Psychology

What are your hopes and plans for after graduation?
I would really like to start working with non-profit organizations to help the community I live in. I also have an interest in working with children, creating goals and providing new opportunities.

What have you been involved in while at MCU?
I am a member of Delta Epsilon Sigma.

What is your favorite memory of MCU?
One of my favorite memories was during new student orientation when we had a taste of our graduation ceremony. It really put things into perspective for me and made the end goal that much closer. Being able to experience what I was working toward was a sweet reward. It pushed me to work harder, and now the end goal is so close!

What advice do you have for other students?
I would advise all students to form connections! It is so important to be able to comfortably talk to your professors. They only want to help you and make sure you do your best. It is also important to make friends and enjoy every experience offered. There is so much MCU offers, so it is best to take advantage of what you can.

What was your favorite experience at MCU?
My favorite experience at MCU is the campus. There is nothing better than driving to campus on a clear day and being able to look out at the ocean. It’s even better when you can do your work on a lounge chair and enjoy the view.

What was your favorite class at MCU and why?
One of my favorite classes was Intercultural Psychology. I really enjoyed this class because I love learning about other people. Understanding others and their cultures is not only extremely interesting, but it broadens your perspective and allows for the sharing of new ideas. I gained new and valuable information from this class.

Who inspired you at MCU and why?
Someone who has inspired me at MCU is Dr. Amy Lauer. She has made my learning experience here at MCU incredible. She always has a positive attitude and true passion for what she teaches. I’ve learned so much from her and it makes me want to continue in my educational career. Not only does she apply “real life” teaching but she makes it fun and easy to understand. She is someone you can truly look up to.
