Marymount Expands Career Connections at the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce Business Expo and Showcase
Last month, Marymount California University participated in the annual Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce (TACC) Business Expo and Showcase (this year with a surf’s up island theme!).
More than 125 Torrance area businesses, non-profit organizations, and restaurants were present, which provided even more networking and employer outreach opportunities for MCU’s Internship & Career Planning Office. The event was a huge success for the community — and for MCU in particular — because it provided an opportunity for one of our current students to proudly represent our school, speak about his experience, and engage in professional development and networking.
MCU peer advisor, student-athlete and accounting major Esomchi Tobe Enenwali accompanied Roshni D. Lal, Assistant Director of Career Planning & Employer Relations, to the event. President Brian Marcotte was also in attendance and spoke to the crowd of networking professionals.
“I truly felt proud and fortunate to represent my university to employers, community members, and parents of prospective students,” said Enenwali. “Marymount California University gives its students the tools to grow as an individual and the opportunity to connect with people instrumental to our overall development and success. The environment and people at the EXPO really gave me a taste of what it’s like to be a professional in the real world. I know that this experience will only elevate my networking skills and help me stand out to potential employers.”
“While this was MCU’s 2nd year at the EXPO, as members of the Torrance Chamber Education & Workforce Committee, we had our first opportunity to be an Exhibitor,” explained Lal. “The ability to connect and interact with diverse and numerous employers and community members is what enables MCU to provide its students and alumni with a multitude of internship and employment options. We are excited to continue to participate in this unparalleled annual event with a fun-filled theme! This year’s theme was Surfs-Up which is perfect for Mariners looking to catch the wave!”
Students and alumni will continue to benefit greatly from the many more internship and employment opportunities appearing on Mariner Career Connect as a result of MCU participating in events like the TACC Expo.President Marcotte shared that “The Business Networking Expo was a great opportunity to reconnect with old friends and meet many new ones—it was a packed house from a wide cross-section of Torrance businesses and organizations. It was an informative evening but, just as importantly, it was a lot of fun with high energy and common purpose.”
